How to install drivers for your RTL-SDR or HackRF – Getting Started with SDR Part 1 of 4

Getting drivers installed for your RTL-SDR, HackRF etc may seem daunting at first but it’s actually quite simple once you see how it is done.

Essentially you’ll need to plug in your SDR and wait for windows to install whatever driver (or lack thereof) to the device.
You’ll then want to install Zadig, this is the tool that handles the driver installation for you.

It’s a free application you can find here:

Once installed, go ahead and run it. You’ll see something like this.

From the drop down you’ll look for your SDR, It might be named RTL2832T, R820T, HackRF or it may just be labeled as a “bulk-in interface”
If you don’t see it go up to options and select ‘list all devices’

From there you should be able to get everything installed.
